Believe it or not, there is a right and a wrong way to wash your hair… and it is very important to ensure you are doing it properly!
In order to maximize not only scalp health but also the amount of time you can go between washes, it’s important to make sure you are washing your hair correctly when you do!
If you use products between washes, chances are high there will be a fair amount of build-up on the hair strands as well as the scalp. Oil, products, and toxins alike, it is important to make sure you are washing it all out at each wash.
I have news for you and it’s really quite simple… Don’t wash your hair once, wash it twice!
The first time you apply shampoo to your hair and begin to scrub, you may notice that it doesn’t lather very well. That is normal!
What you want to do is apply the first round of shampoo and scrub your scalp to the best of your ability. Then you want to rinse and repeat. The second time around you will notice it is easier to lather and you will be able to better disperse the product everywhere to ensure a proper clean.
Another bonus tip is to scrub with your finger pads, not your nails, in a circular motion.
Bottom line is this… If you feel like there is still product build up left in your hair after you have washed it, you want to make sure you go back and give it a proper scrub.
As a stylist, it is evident when someone is suffering from improper washes by the health of their scalp.
If you are suffering from itchy scalp, flaky scalp, excess oil/buildup, and or smells that are just “not right”, this may be something you want to ensure you are doing properly!
